Proposed New NR72 Route Timeline for Commemorative Walk to Freedom

Route NR72 Under Construction

Day One - October 5th 2015

(Meet at 5.45am for 6.00am departure from HMP Edinburgh car park)

Route NR72 - Stage One: Turn left out of Saughton Prison car park on the Stenhouse Road and head west along the footpath up the A71 and continue on the Calder Road over both Longstone Roundabout and Sighthill Roundabout towards the next exit for Wester Hailes. At Bankhead Roundabout turn left down the Wester Hailes Road on the B701. Continue on down the road and cross over the Clovenstone Roundabout keeping straight on the B701. Cross over the A70 Lanark Road junction and head down Gillespie Road, still on the B701. Continue through to Colinton on Bridge Road and turn right when you reach Redford Road. Pass Dreghorn Army Barracks on the right until you reach the roundabout and turn right down the Dreghorn Link for the Edinburgh City Bypass. Cross over the City Bypass and into the Pentland Hills Regional Park.

Rest and be thankful that you’ve made it this far already and take in the magnificent views over the City of Edinburgh, Arthur’s Seat and the Kingdom of Fife, bathed in sunshine as it always is at this time of year, in the distance overlooking the Firth of Forth. Opportunity for photo shoot.

Route NR72 - Stage Two:

Pentland Hills Regional Park Trail and the Road to Auchendinny…
